Y'ALL this was the engagement session of my dreamsssss!! For real, I cried when we got to the top of Cathedral Rock out of pure gratitude that this is my job & that I have such incredible clients who literally flew me across the country to photograph their engagement session at the most epic location.
We started the day at Birthing Cave for a hike & some casual photos, and then adventured around to find a location to do a camping session. I wanted to include the camping photos in their gallery because this trip was a road trip for them, and they spent most of their time camping out of their truck. I thought it would be perfect to get some photos of that because it was what so much of their trip consisted of, and I wanted to document that for them.
After camping photos, we went to dinner at my favorite place on earth, Chocolatree (if you go to Sedona you have to try it!!) and then went back to our airbnb to get ready for the real deal engagement photos at Cathedral Rock. None of us had hiked it before, it was our first time even in Sedona, and the All Trails app told us to be prepared for a MODERATE hike. LOL. It was quiteeee the hike, parts of it we had to literally climb up on our hands & knees. We were all sweating. We even got halfway & briefly talked about just taking photos there. But we kept going and ohhh my goodness was it worth it.
The view at the top of Cathedral Rock, as the sun was setting, was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. Like I said, I cried when we got to the top. It was so stunning, and I had to remind myself several times that this is my job, my life, that I really am this lucky. Wow. Taylor & Joel changed out of their hiking clothes & into their engagement session outfits, and I do not know how they managed to look that good after the hike we had just done. We frolicked around Cathedral Rock, having so much fun taking photos, and stopping every 5 seconds in awe of the whole experience. It was truly magical.
I remember second shooting a wedding when I had just started getting into wedding photography, and the photographer I was shooting for had posted photos a while back of the couple who's wedding we were at, their engagement session in Joshua Tree. I remember thinking "I want to do that someday." It was something I had dreamed about, and for it to come to fruition a year later is something I will never forget. It was turning the dream into a reality that kept leaving me at a loss for words throughout my entire trip to Sedona. To be able to travel to new places, see the beauty of the world, with incredible clients, I am so blessed. Truly. If you're a photographer reading this right now, do not give up. Keep going. Dream big. It's possible, I promise.
Scroll down to see the magic we created in Sedona, and admire how freaking beautiful of a couple Taylor & Joel are. AND stay tuned for their wedding photos!!!
